There are three screening English assessments: • Screening English Level 1 and 2 • Screening English Level 3 and 4 • Screening English Level 4 and 5 These assessments have been designed to ensure that students begin in the appropriate level to progress and achieve mastery of English. Screening English Level 1 and 2 This assessment is targeted at beginner and lower intermediate English speakers. Questions assess basic English structures and vocabulary. If a student achieves 65% or above for the assessment, the student may proceed with Level 2. If the student scores less than 65%, the suggestion is that the student begins with Level 1. In addition to the basic English structures, this assessment measures the following cognitive elements: • Logic and reasoning • Word recognition • Following instructions and vocabulary knowledge • Phonemic awareness • Decoding words • Phonological processing • Working memory • Attention and concentration • Fluency Screening English Level 3 and 4 This assessment is targeted at intermediate and intermediate-advanced English speakers. If the student achieves 65% or above for the assessment, the student may proceed with Level 4. If the student achieves less than 65% it is suggested that the student proceeds with Level 3. The following are assessed: • Visual literary • Poetry techniques • Comprehension • Parts of speech • Punctuation • Sentence construction • Synonyms and antonyms • Figurative language In addition to the English language concepts, this assessment measures the following cognitive elements: • Logic and reasoning • Word recognition • Following instructions and vocabulary knowledge • Phonemic awareness • Decoding words • Phonological processing • Working memory • Attention and focus • Visual perception • Eye movement control • Comprehension and retention • Selective attention Screening English Level 4 and 5 This assessment is targeted at intermediate-advanced and advanced English speakers. The following are assessed: • Visual literary • Poetry techniques • Comprehension • Parts of speech • Punctuation • Sentence construction • Synonyms and antonyms • Figures of speech • Objective and subjective language In addition to the English language concepts, this assessment measures the following cognitive elements: • Logic and reasoning • Word recognition • Following instructions and vocabulary knowledge • Phonemic awareness • Decoding words • Phonological processing • Working memory • Attention and focus • Visual perception • Eye movement control • Comprehension and retention • Selective attention If a student achieves 65% or above for the assessment, the student may proceed with Level 5. If the student scores less than 65%, the suggestion is that the student begins with Level 4. Students will receive a report after the assessment has been completed.
